Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts

History: 


  • 1997, HAPA: Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts was established for the promotion and development of the arts, with an emphasis on theater training.
  • 2001, HAPA became a founding Partner of The ARTS at Marks Garage (Marks) contributing to the renaissance of Honolulu's Chinatown through community development and the arts.
  • 2010, HAPA established Chinatown Artists Lofts, with ten live/work units in the Mendonca Building as an anchor for artists designed to ensure sustainability for authentic arts in the cultural district.
  • 2011 HAPA assumed full responsibility and control of Marks from The Hawaii Arts Alliance.

HAPA provides home to over two-dozen artists and for-profit and non-profit organizations in all the following creative disciplines Film, Dance, Theater, Painting, Sculpture, Glass, Ceramics, Fiber, Writing, Poetry, Fashion, Photography, and Comedy. 

  

Our Role: is to be the driving force behind major outreach programs that enhance the quality of life for young people in the immediate community, create opportunities for art expression and education, and involve both locals and visitors in the power of creativity. Marks creates economic vitality and empowers the community to reach its artistic, creative and human potential.
